Lighting Around The Campfire
Celebrate National S'mores Day with Wick
National S’mores Day is US holiday arriving on August 10th every year. Make your home warm and inviting by bringing the summer campfire aroma indoors with the scents of burning wood, fresh cinnamon, crisp marshmallow and notes of brown sugar in our sweet and inspiring soy wax candle.
Ancient Egyptians enjoyed marshmallows as early as 2000 BC, while France didn’t get wind of the magical creation in the mid-1800s. By the 1890’s, marshmallow roasts were all the rage in the Northeastern United States, especially in summer resort towns. Although marshmallows have been enjoyed for years, the campfire debate over how long a marshmallow to cook still continues today. While some argue that if you aren’t careful, you can burn a marshmallow to a crisp, others would say that burnt to a crisp is the desired state of a perfect marshmallow for s’mores.
Loretta Scott Crew first published a recipe for “some mores” in 1927 in a Girl Scout publication called Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. This publication also listed how to build 12 different types of campfires, which is essential for authentic s’mores.
With a rich history for an even richer snack, s’mores is a staple of early fall camping. If you want to relax by a campfire with warm childhood memories without having to pack camping gear, enjoy our fragrance of the month: Lakeside S’mores Candle.
